Don’t let the end-of-summer blues get you down! With back to school being a focus and Halloween decorations being sold in-store, it feels like summer will be gone before we know it! Here are 5 great ways to take advantage of the rest of the summer in Hampton Roads!#GoodToKnow

1. Beach Day

Have you explored all the different beaches in Hampton Roads this summer? Try something different and visit one of these beautiful beaches for the day!

  • Buckroe Beach
    • Amenities: Picnic shelters, public restrooms (No pets allowed)
    • Hours of Operation: Memorial Day – Labor Day, 10am – 6pm
    • Location: 100 First Street South – Hampton, VA 23664

  • Huntington Park
    • Amenities: Lifeguard on duty, picnic shelters, fishing pier, boat ramp, plaground, rose garden, public restroom and concessions.
    • Hours of Operation: Memorial Day – Labor Day, 10am – 6pm
    • Location: 5500 W. Mercury Blvd., Newport News, VA 23607
  • Ocean View Beach Park
    • Amenities: Picnic tables, parking lots and lifeguard on duty
    • Hours of Operation: Memorial Day – Labor Day, 10am – 6pm
    • Location: 100 W. Ocean View Ave – Norfolk, VA 23503
    • Beach Access Locations
  • Sandbridge
    • Amenities: Parking, lifeguards on duty and restrooms. No pets allowed after 10am or before 6pm Memorial Day thru Labor Day. Parking maximum of $5 a day.
    • Hours of Operation: Memorial Day – Labor Day, 10am – 6pm
    • Location: Little Island Park
  • Virginia Beach
    • Interactive Map – Includes parking details, entrance points and hours of operation
  • Chicks Beach
    • Amenities: A parking lot is available from 8:00am – 4:00pm daily for $5.00 per car at the Alexander’s parking lot at the end of Fentress Ave on the beach. Cars must be removed by 4:00pm for restaurant customers’ usage. Nearby restaurant’s make for a great lunch!
    • Hours of Operation:   8am – 4pm

2. Host

You’ve probably attended a bunch of outdoor parties but have you hosted your own? While the weather is not too hot and not too cold take advantage of backyard space and be the hostess with the mostess!

3. Nature Hike

Burn some calories and soak up Vitamin D with the family while on a nature hike! Hampton Roads has some great hiking and biking trails to take advantage of! Not to mention the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the new 55 mile Capital Trail taking place this October!

  • False Cape State Park
    • Amenities: Tram transportation is available April 1 through Oct. 31. Primitive conditions ideal for experienced camper.
    • Hours of Operation: Dawn – Dusk
    • Location: Trails begin at Little Island City Park
    • Miles: 5.9 miles of beachfront hiking trails

  • York River State Park
    • Amenities: Amphitheater, visitor’s center, canoe dock, 2 picnic shelters and public restrooms.
    • Hours of Operation: 8am – Dusk
    • Location: 9801 York River Park Road, Williamsburg, Va 23188

  • Indian River Park Trail
    • Amenities: Trails and jumps for biking, baseball field, playground, grills, picnic area and public restroom.
    • Hours of Operation: Dawn – Dusk

  • Capital Trail
    • OPENING DAY – October 2nd – Ribbon Cutting Ceremony in Richmond

    • Location: Trail head starts at 2070 Jamestown Road, Williamsburg, VA 23185
    • Miles: 55 miles stretching from Jamestown, Williamsburg and Richmond

4. Make Labor Day Weekend Plans

Labor Day marks the official end of summer so turn the frowns upside down with a pre-planned family trip or outing!

5. Attend a Festival
